Our Approach

Mangaluru International Airport Limited integrates sustainability into its operations and decision-making. A dedicated Environment and Sustainability Department, supported by cross-functional teams, oversees the implementation of the ESG strategy. The strategy focuses on environmental responsibility, social impact, and long-term value through a strong governance framework, reinforcing Mangaluru International Airport Limited commitment to sustainability.

Climate Change

Mangaluru International Airport Limited integrates climate action into its sustainability efforts. our carbon reduction targets align with India’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070 and the Paris Agreement’s aim to limit global warming to below 2°C, while striving towards the 1.5°C target. In FY 2024-25, Mangaluru International Airport Limited working on various energy and carbon saving initiatives.

Water Stewardship

Water stewardship is an essential part of Mangaluru International Airport Limited ’s sustainability strategy. We recognize the critical importance of water conservation and sustainable water management by identifying risks, optimizing usage, and reducing reliance on surface water. Our goal is to achieve water positivity through best-in-class industry practices in water stewardship. The rainwater harvesting pond capacity 5000 KL and can be filled many times during monsoon and utilized further.

Waste Management

Mangaluru International Airport Limited aligns its waste management approach with AAHL’s Waste Management Policy, centered on the 5R principles—Reduce, Reuse, Reprocess, Recycle, and Recover. Waste is managed through five stages at a dedicated Material Recovery Facility, ensuring compliance with national regulations. With a strong focus on waste minimization and sustainability, Mangaluru International Airport Limited is working for Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWL) recognition from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the timeline set is February-2026. However, we have already diverted 99 % waste from landfill.

Fleet Decarbonization

Mangaluru International Airport Limited is actively transforming airport mobility by accelerating the shift to eco-friendly transportation. By end of FY 2025, MgIAL successfully transitioned 31 fossil fuel-based vehicles to Electric Vehicles (EVs). To support this transition airport has also installed 02 EV charging stations across its premises.
